You don’t necessarily have to be a celebrity to experience the unfortunate incident of stalking. In this day and age, where every individual’s personal details aren’t hard to figure out, the fear of being stalked or watched is very much relevant. While, thankfully, sometimes it’s nothing but a result of an overactive imagination, other times your instincts may not entirely be lying. 

We’ve all had our “I think someone’s following me” moments at some point in time, especially if you’re a woman, nobody wants to live a horror movie in real-time. Therefore, here we have some advice on what one can do in case they’re being followed.

Do Not Let Fear Take Over

It’s easy to panic and be overwhelmed when you feel like someone’s following you. However, trying to run or escape may make matters worse, especially if you’re in a car. Instead, slow your speed down, relax and observe how the supposed person reacts. If they hang back, it probably may have been a coincidence, and if they try to match your speed, you may want to think of the next step.

Confuse the Culprit

Taking a detour may put the suspected follower in a state of confusion. However, if you’re still unsure whether the person is following you, make a wrong turn and observe if they do the same. This could be a very obvious sign that the person is indeed following you. Continue making turns to roads where you can find more people around.

Seek Refuge In a Crowded Area

If you’re somewhere with a lot of shops and cafes, try to seek refuge there temporarily. Crowds may discourage a stalker from following you for a while, and you can take this time to contact a friend or the police station.

In the end, no matter where you are, being mentally and physically equipped to deal with a possible personal security crisis should be your top priority.
